I know it's not productive at all to dwell in the past but I still think what "Days" could have done to have Eileen long-term.

1. No paycut (she could have had a similar workload she was used to while being on Y&R)

...

It sounds so easy. SIGH :( :( :(
DAYS didn't have the money to pay her what she was making on Y&R for a similar workload. That's just the reality of working on DAYS.

It might be. Their cost saving policy is killing the show alive IMO. It's still too difficult for me to understand how, for example, GH can afford Michelle Stafford and possibly Billy Miller when their cast is as big as it already is. It feels like "Days" has half of the budget the other shows have. It's like their only strength is their cheap production. How can they compete in the long run with the attitude like that? I think, they have to risk and make some additional investments to contribute to the quality if they want new viewers.

I also get the feeling as if the show writes only for certain characters because some of the actors have lower rates, and can't write for some vets because they are saving money and can't afford them onscreen for a story  .

If I didn't mishear her, she said she starts airing in July for a three months stint. So, that's July, August, & September, possibly early October. Sounds like she'll be exiting around the time JS exit. I wonder if Kristen Will play a role in EJ's departure.

Probably, all of this is true. Also, it might very well be that the Days budget is actually a lot smaller than the GH budget. I'm sure it is certainly a lot smaller than Y&R's. Also, FV is known for being a master in getting the budget done just right so that there is enough money for everything.

Yes, except that she'll only start airing at the very end of July, which means that she's actually going to be there for August, September and October, and probably the beginning of November. She should exit a bit after Sami.

I think one of the reasons she is back is to be there for EJ's "death" and to probably go some major rounds with Sami about his death. I'm sure she and Sami will blame each other for it, lol. I also cannot imagine her looking the Kate and Sami takeover plot very well. I'm sure she'll have them smoked out of DE in no time.

To all haters about what I'm about to say...I'm sorry.

I'm glad Kristen's return won't be permanent, wasn't looking forward to it anyway and it's got nothing to do with ED or her performance. The writing of Kristen sucks huge big rocks, it was disgusting in this latest run of her. And the s/l with John and Marlena started off good and ended, disturbing. I say bigger and better is what this woman needs, hope she gets it.
What is happening on the show that you actually like?

I'm not sure a smattering of Days is overly possible. I mean she said herself Kristen isn't one to sit at the coffee house, but what else could she really do if she only returns for a day or two at a time?

Honestly it kind of sounds like they have the possibility to use her at DOOL but who knows if they will. It almost sounds as if she is under contract with SONY instead of YR. Maybe Sony could force YR to let her go to DOOL for one or two days a week for a couple of months here and there. She did that for this past arc only working two days a week, filming multiple episodes a week (which they film like 7 to 8 a week).

SONY kind of sounds like it took control of her contract. She is full time at YR, but DOOL wants to use her as an arc type character, which in my opinion is the only way to keep Kristen interesting. If it becomes too much she may just stop doing DOOL. Really the whole issue was money. She took a paycut to work just at DOOL, so she is obviously making more money to work at YR again with the option to go to DOOL for a story arc here and there.

Maybe she can sit at the TBD and have a drink or two?

Speaking more seriously, I never could understand why ED was saying that Kristen can't be a long-term character (even though I can understand that she doesn't wan't to play a character like Kristen for several years and that's her decision to make). IMO Kristen can sit and drink her cup of Latte if she is written to do that :) . That's all it takes.
So, IMHO, if the writers can/want to write Kristen for 1-3 episodes, they will, if not then not. I can think of some possibilities where even one single episode can mean a lot for a story: let's say they kill off the character but then there's an episode which reveals that the character isn't really dead.

In this particular case, if thinking realistically, I could see Kristen returning for the 50th for 3-6 episodes.

I know I'm repeating myself but I have to disagree with you on the bolded. I think, even less over the top and more balanced Kristen with a long-term potential could still be more interesting than 4/5 of the current "Days" characters.

Even if Sony's influence is not to be overseen (Y&R usually doesn't allow their regular cast to do other projects besides the show) her contract is with Y&R. Yesterday while live tweeting Angelica McDaniel tweeted this:

Angelica McDaniel ‏@AngelicaMcD 14h
.@Doquinn76 @SourceRyan I've been trying to get @eileen_davidson back to #YR for a very long time. THRILLED she's back home!

Now I'm wondering, whom she had to persuade: Eileen, Jill Farren Phelps, TPTB at Sony or all the three, LOL  ?

All the three, I bet, but especially JFP. This is how I thought it went. Ang McD. has been trying to very vocally get her back to Y&R for a long time, and it was evident she was behind it now. ED even said at the interview that "CBS Daytime" has been very nice about it. The thing is though, I cannot imagine them writing something decent for her. Now, let's say, if they were smart, they have seen what she had done on DAYS the year before, and they would write more diversity into ED's performances and write Ashley more as a strong, capable and sexy woman. Now, this could still happen. But still, that show's canvas is so weak at the moment as it is. Half of the characters are like plastique. There is no real connection with the audience in the show.......
